A man who sexually abused three children, two as he babysat for them, has been sentenced to prison.

Tony Paton, now aged 27, was sentenced at Edinburgh High Court yesterday (17th April 2018) to six years in prison and registered as a sex offender indefinitely.

The offences, which include rape, took place between 2004 and 2008 in Dunfermline against three girls aged 4 to 6 years old at the time.

Fife Division’s Public Protection Unit launched a major investigation into Paton after the victims came forward to report the abuse in November 2016.

Paton was subsequently arrested and charged and convicted of the offences at Edinburgh High Court on 27th February 2018.

Detective Sergeant Lara Loudon from Fife’s Public Protection Unit said: “Paton took advantage of a position of trust to commit depraved acts against very young children.

“I want to commend the victims for their courage and cooperation throughout our investigation. Unfortunately, nothing can undo Paton’s actions but, thanks to their bravery, they finally have justice.

“Police Scotland is committed to investigating all reports of sexual crime, regardless of when the incidents took place, and to ensuring that those responsible for such crimes are brought to justice.

“Anyone who has concerns about a child or the conduct of an adult, whether recent or not, is urged to contact police on 101 or report their concerns anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
