We are issuing a fresh appeal for witnesses following a serious assault in Dunfermline Town Centre.
The incident happened sometime between 4am and 5am on Tuesday 1st January n the Monastery Street area of the town.
During this attack, a 21-year-old man sustained a significant injury to his neck and was taken to hospital for treatment before later being released.
The suspect is described as an Asian male aged between 20 and 30 years-old, between 5ft 9ins and 6ft tall with a medium build, dark hair and a trimmed dark beard. He was wearing a dark coloured tracksuit.
Detective Sergeant Christopher Dow of Dunfermline CID said: “This has been a particularly frightening experience for the victim and he has suffered a very serious and painful injury.
“We believe a weapon may have been used, though our inquiries are continuing to confirm this.
“As part of this investigation, we are specifically interested in speaking to two people in the area who may have vital information.
“The man and woman are believed to have come from the Kirkgate area, onto St. Catherines Wynd and then onto Monastery Street. The woman was holding a cream-coloured handbag.
“These individuals, or anyone else with any relevant information, are asked to contact police immediately.”
