Attempted theft in Ballingry

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted theft in Ballingry.

The incident happened around 6pm on Thursday 7th June at the Westfield Electrical Sub Station.

It is believed those responsible tried to steal copper wiring from the site resulting in a power failure.

Inquiries are ongoing to trace the culprits and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Inspector Gavin Cameron from Cowdenbeath Police Station said: “This incident was a reckless act of stupidity that not only resulted in a power outage, but could have put the suspects and other members of the public at risk of serious injury.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the sub-station on Thursday evening should contact police immediately.

“We’d also urge anyone with any further information relevant to this inquiry to get in touch.”

Those with information can contact Cowdenbeath Police Station via 101 and quote incident number 3224 of the 7th June. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
