Police in Cowdenbeath are appealing for witnesses after an elderly lady was targeted by bogus callers.

Around 2.30 pm on Monday 26 August, two men agreed to carry out gardening work in Gilmour Street, Cowdenbeath. They were given access to the property and paid £100 in advance.

No work was carried out and the elderly victim later discovered that a three figure sum of money had been stolen from her home.

The two men involved were both white and are described as being aged between 20-40 years old. The first man was of slim build with short fair/blond hair wearing a grey shirt and grey trousers. The second was also of slim build, with dark brown hair in a mullet style wearing dark clothing.

The pair left the area in a white Ford Transit van.

Inspector Cameron from Cowdenbeath Police Station said:

“These criminals have exploited the trust of this woman to steal a sum of money from within her home. I am appealing for anyone who can help us identify these individuals, or who has any information relevant to this investigation, to contact police immediately.

“The public are reminded to never allow unsolicited callers to carry out work at their home and never allow anyone entry if you are not entirely certain of who they are.
